8th “For Homeland Security” Sports Festival opens in Hanoi

The ceremony saw the presence of General To Lam, Member of Politburo and Minister of Public Security, and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism among other delegates and 123 athletes from public security units and agencies nationwide.

With the spirit of sportsmanship and solidarity, the sports event was organized in celebration of the 75th founding anniversary of the People's Public Security Forces and the 15th “All People Protecting National Security” Festive Day.

Earlier, the Sports Festival 2020 with 13 events, namely swimming, ping-pong, Chinese chess, Taekwondo, armed and cross-country running, seven-a-side soccer, Public Security Forces’ games, shooting, amateur and professional volleyball, martial arts, tennis, badminton, fire-fighting and rescue games, is organized in various provinces and cities across the countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security, emphasized that the Sports Festival, which is organized in every half decade, is a major sporting event of the Public Security Forces aimed at evaluating and promoting sports movements among public security officers and soldiers.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien requested units and agencies under the MPS and the provincial-level police departments to strengthen their cooperation with the culture - sports - tourism sector to step up the movement "All people following Uncle Ho to do physical exercise". 

Particularly, all public security officers and soldiers should increase their physical training and mobilize others to do physical exercise everyday.
