At the ceremony, delegates, scientists and educators heard the report on admission result for professor, associate professor title in 2016. This year, after admission has been taken at three council levels, 65 scientists were recognized as professors and 638 scientists were recognized as associate professor (a total of 703, rate 75.51%) by the State Professor Title Council. 28 sectors participated in the consideration. The most number of scientists recognized as Professor and Associate Professor include Medicine (7 professors and 114 associate professors), Economics (1 professor and 72 associate professors), Food Chemistry - Technology (6 professors and 40 associate professors) and Philosophy - Sociology - Political Science (6 professors and 38 associate professors).

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam congratulated 65 professors and 638 associate professors recognized as meeting standard in 2016; at the same time he affirmed, groups of educators, scientists, especially professors, associate professors have made significant contributions to the Cause of education, development of science and technology in particular and national liberation, reunification, construction and defense of the nation in general.

Our country is facing requirements for more rapid and sustainable development. Globalization and development of science and technology increasingly confirms the role and importance of knowledge, intellectuals, educators and scientists. So, to pass up and not to be left behind, Vietnam needs to overcome clearly present limitations, weaknesses, two of which are scientific and technological potentials and human resource quality. This requires us to innovate national innovation system, training and education strongly, particularly higher education; to pay special attention on scientific and technological research in the higher education institutions. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam proposed Professors, Associate Professors to promote their role successfully in school, institutions, scientific research and society.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training, the State Professor Title Council Chairman Phung Xuan Nha said the number of Professor, Associate Professor of our country is limited compared to the world, their quality continue to be improved.

The review for recognition of Professor and Associate Professor title in 2016 contributed significantly to improving both quantity and quality of the intelligentsia and university teachers, promoting the publication of scientific works on prestigious magazines in the world and apply science and technology products into practical production and social life. This is also a condition for higher education institutions to appoint these titles into working positions on the basis of personnel development strategy, workforce structure and demand of the unit. The Minister hopes new professors, associate professors continue to strive to be worthy of the titles so recognized and appointed.

In 2016 five sector - cross-sector professor title councils piloted successfully and conveniently online receipt and approval of applications, including: Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Informatics and Irrigation, this is well-known computerization in the world, to be applied to all sector - cross-sector councils in the coming years.

In 2016: the youngest Professor was Tran Dinh Thang, major of Chemistry, University of Vinh (41 years old); The Youngest Associate Professor was Tran Xuan Bach, major of Medicine, Hanoi Medical University (32 years old); The New Professor of History Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University has 10 international publications; The Professor Dao Van Lap, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, major in Physics with many outstanding scientific projects, 110 articles published in well-known international journals; In particular, in 2016 female Professors and Associate Professors occupy high percentage (28%); Total number of professors and associate professors account for 66.43% in Hanoi, 14.80% in HCMC, 19.77% in other provinces.
