Police Commissioner General of Korean National Police Agency Director Pays Official Visit to People’s Police Academy of Vietnam

The KNPA delegation's visit to Vietnam, scheduled from September 26 to 29, 2024, was part of the cooperation plan between the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and the KNPA for 2024. The delegation included representatives from key KNPA departments, such as the Criminal Investigation Department, the International Cooperation Department, and the Organized Drug Crime Investigation Department. Also attending were representatives from the KNPA Police Attaché, Korean Embassy in Vietnam.

On the Vietnamese side, attending the meeting were also Pol.Maj.Gen.Dr. Chu Van Dzung, PPA Vice President; Pol.Sr.Col. Nguyen Hoa Chi, Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign Relations; and representatives from various units within the PPA and the Department of Foreign Relations of the MPS.

Overview of the official reception welcoming the KNPA Commissioner General

During the reception, Pol.Lt.Gen.Prof.Dr. Tran Minh Huong welcomed KNPA Commissioner General Cho Ji Ho and his delegation to the PPA. The PPA President provided the delegation with an overview of the academy, including its scale, training programs, and recent achievements in international cooperation in education, training, and scientific research, particularly highlighting its prominent cooperation with Korean partners. He also underscored the academy's significant role and contributions to the education and training of public security officers, as well as its efforts in safeguarding national security and maintaining social order in Vietnam.

Based on this foundation, the PPA President proposed several areas for potential bilateral cooperation in police training. Specifically, he suggested promoting collaborative training programs for police personnel between the two ministries, particularly between the PPA and Korean police training institutions. He pointed out specific areas where KNPA holds expertise, such as the application of information technology in crime prevention, investigation, and addressing specialized crimes like cybercrime and transnational organized crime. Furthermore, he requested continued support from KNPA for the MPS of Vietnam and the People's Police Academy in multilateral police cooperation forums.

In response, KNPA Commissioner General Cho Ji Ho expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended by the PPA. He acknowledged the exchange proposed by the PPA President and highlighted the KNPA's extensive experience in crime investigation, prevention, and police training. Commissioner General Cho Ji Ho pledged that, upon returning to Korea, he would direct the relevant functional units to initiate meaningful cooperative activities with the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, particularly with the PPA.

As part of the working program, the delegation also had a meeting with three students from the Korean National Police University currently participating in an international exchange semester at the People's Police Academy, as well as five KNPA police officers enrolled in a Vietnamese language training program at the People’s Security Academy.

Following the formal reception, the delegation paid a PPA campus tour and visited the PPA traditional Room.
