Scientific workshop “Improving the good teaching quality at PPA”

Attending and presiding over the workshop were Major General, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang, Vice President of the PPA. The workshop was attended by Senior Colonel Vu Tien Inh, Deputy Director of the Training Department, Ministry of Public Security; leaders of the PPA’s departments and the police training institutions of Public Security force.

To implement the Circular No.56/2010/TT-BCA, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the PPA have paid special attention to promoting the emulation movement of good teaching, creating a lively emulation atmosphere throughout the Academy.

The activity of good teaching encourages lecturers to innovate actively the content, teaching methods and teaching experiences; assesses the reality of teaching to help the PPA to set up plan for training and fostering of lecturers and improve the quality of teaching to meet the demand of radical and comprehensive renovation of higher education.

Since the school year 2011 - 2012, the PPA has evaluated 474 good lessons at the Academy level, 189 good lessons at the department level; organized 03 good teaching contests at the Academy level with 80 participants; the teaching units, mass organizations have held the good teaching contests at the department level with 52 participants. The PPA has sent 14 lecturers to attend the good teaching contest at the Ministerial-level for the school year 2012 - 2013 and the school year 2015 - 2016, all lecturers have won prizes, including 8 first prizes.

In the school year 2016 - 2017, the PPA took the initiative in organizing the first Lecturer’s Teaching-in-English Contest. The contest attracted 14 participants from the fields of Psychology, Law and Professional Study. The contest promoted the movement of learning the foreign languages and contributed to the successful implementation of high quality training programs in English.

In order to serve the education and training in general and the activity of good teaching in particular, the PPA has equipped with advanced teaching facilities such as smart interactive board, smart podium, sound system, wireless microphones, high-speed wifi, etc. In particular, the proficient use of intelligent interactive board, smart podium has become an obligatory criterion for teachers participating in good teaching.

At the workshop, representatives of departments which have many achievements in good teaching at all levels, such as the Department of Police for Criminal Investigation, Department of Laws, Faculty of Political Theory - Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Foreign Languages shared their experiences in improving the quality of good teaching activity. Accordingly, the leaders of the departments always pay close attention and timely direct to the good teaching activity; set up and strictly adhere to the process of approving, evaluating and implementing the good lessons of the lecturers in the departments; encourage the lecturers to actively participate in good teaching activity organized by the PPA and the Ministry of Public Security; assign the experienced lecturers to instruct new lecturers from the process of carrying out the good lessons; positively learn, apply new pedagogical methods to create the strong point in the good lessons of the departments.

From the practice of good teaching at the PPA, the representatives proposed some solutions to improve the quality of good teaching activity at the PPA and made suggestions to amend Circular No. 56/2010/TT-BCA on a number of contents such as: applying scientific research criteria to assess the good lessons, supplementing the criteria for the title of good lecturers at the institutional level, ministerial level, etc.


Overview of the workshop

At the workshop, Major General, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang, Vice President of the PPA affirmed that after the implementation of Circular No.56/2010/TT-BCA at the PPA, the good teaching activity had drastic changes, the lecturers raised the sense of initiative, volunteer to participate in the good teaching activity organized by various levels, contributing to the building the high-qualified lecturers to attend the good teaching contest at ministerial-level.

By assessing the subjective and objective shortcomings of good teaching activity, the Vice President of the PPA suggested that the teaching departments and the departments of training management should continue to renovate the good teaching activity to become an effective movement at the PPA. The departments should actively set up the plan for training lecturers; training and fostering new teaching methods for lecturers; increasing exchanges the experiences with specialists and advanced training institutions at home and abroad.

The Vice President of the PPA requested the Department of Training Management to coordinate with the functional units in the PPA to collect comments of the departments within the PPA on the amendment of Circular No.56/2010/TT-BCA; continuously review the regulations of the PPA on good teaching activity that are no longer appropriate to the reality and propose to the Board of Directors to amend; study, apply the criteria on information technology for evaluating good lesson at the departmental level and the institutional level; set up the open policies to link good teaching activity with the rights and obligations of lecturers.
