On October 8th, 2014,
Major General, Dr. Dang Xuan Khang, Vice President of the PPA had a meeting
with Mr. Oliver Lermet, Southeast Asia and Pacific
Regional Adviser for HIV/AIDS of the UNODC.
At the meeting, after being
introduced to the process of formation and development of the PPA, Mr. Oliver
Lermet was extremely impressed with the achievements of the PPA in recent
years. He also expressed his sincere thanks to the PPA for the comprehensive
cooperation with the UNODC and considered the UNODC as one of the long-term
growth partner. Mr. Oliver Lermet emphasized during his work in the region
organized many seminars concerning the role of the police force in reducing HIV
and drug abuse; among those, Vietnam has always been one of the most active
countries. Therefore, Mr. Oliver Lermet expressed his firm belief in the
effective cooperation between the two sides in the upcoming activities.

On that basis, Major General, Dr.
Dang Xuan Khang proposed some cooperative directions with the UNODC in the
coming time as follows:
First, building the study groups to
compile the training curriculum at the PPA with the participation of experts from
the UNODC and the trainers of the PPA.
Second, jointly organizing the
seminar "Relations between police force of Vietnam
with international organizations, sociopolitical organizations in the
prevention of drug abuse, contributing to reducing HIV in Vietnam"
Third, supporting the materials and
foreign language books to enrich the volume of documents at the PPA’s library
under the projects on building and developing police library in the period 2014
- 2020, serving for the need of the research and study at the Academy.
Fourth, sending experts of the UNODC
to the PPA to report on the practical topics for the students of the Academy that
relating to the field of the People's Police Force.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Oliver
said the UNODC appreciated the proposal of the PPA and committed that those
proposals to be discussed and prepared for the cooperative programs in the new
phase. Mr. Oliver also proposed the PPA should make a detailed concept paper on
those proposals in order that the UNODC could study more details before
responding at the soonest.

Board, Major General, Dr. Dang Xuan Khang gave deep thank to the UNODC for
collaborative relationships with the Academy during the previous time and hoped
that the meeting this time would mark a great growth-step in the cooperative relations
between the two sides.
