On December 13th,
2013, at the PPA’s Headquarters, Lieutenant General, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Yem,
President of the PPA had a courtesy meeting with Professor Clive Walker from
the University of Leeds of the United Kingdom. The leaders of the Academy
Office, the Centre for Criminology and some other relevant Departments of the
PPA were also attended the event.
Professor Clive
Walker is the senior lecturer of the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies, Head
of School of Law - University of Leeds,
United Kingdom.
He has a lot of researching works and books on terrorism and anti-terrorism. In
addition, Professor Clive Walker is also working as the guest lecturer for many
prestigious universities in the world such as the University
of George Washington and the University of Sanford
of the U.S.A, the University of Melbourne and University
of New South Wales in Australia. On
the occasion of working visit in Malaysia
and Vietnam
this time, Professor Clive Walker has expressed his desire to visit and work
with the PPA.
At the meeting,
Lieutenant General, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Yem, President of the PPA gave a
brief of the history and development of the PPA as well as the activities of
education and training of the Academy. The President stressed that the PPA is the
important center of scientific research of M.P.S, especially researching on
crime prevention, which is considered as one of the similarities between the PPA
and the University
of Leeds. Therefore, General
Nguyen Xuan Yem has expressed his desire of launching cooperation relationship
between the both sides in many fields, especially in the field of training on Criminal
Justice.
Responding to
the friendly and openly welcome from the PPA, Professor Clive Walker would like
to thank the President of the Academy for his personally courtesy meeting and he
also exchanged some information about the University of Leeds in general and some
professional fields of the Professor in particular. Namely, in 1987, the University of Leeds
founded the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies, since then, the Research Center
has worked effectively and collaborated with many of the police departments of the
United Kingdom.
On the occasion, Professor Clive Walker presented his book on terrorism
prevention for the PPA and gave a draft of Memorandum of Understanding which
the two sides could consider to sign in the future.
On behalf of the
PPA’s Directorate, Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Yem thanked Professor Clive Walker
for the meeting. He also confirmed that the meeting created opportunities for
cooperation between the PPA and the School
of Law - University
of Leeds, United Kingdom
and the PPA will consider signing the MoU with the University of Leeds
in the field of training of Criminal Justice in the near future.
On the occasion
of visiting to the PPA, Professor Clive Walker has a lecture on terrorism
prevention with the PPA’s students of the Foreign Language Faculty. Here, Professor
Clive Walker talked about global efforts of the United Nations, the European Community
in general and the British Government in particular in the field of terrorism
prevention. This is the opportunity for the PPA’s foreign language students not
only cultivate the ability to communicate in English, but also learn further about
the information and materials relating to the terrorism prevention in the world
- which is consider as the new topic but especially being attended and researched
by the Vietnamese Government in recent years.
