Towards the 60th
anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7th, 1954 - May 7th, 2014), the PPA
held a talk on the Dien Bien Phu Victory by the historical witness Colonel,
Hero of People's Armed Forces Phung Van Khau with the officers and lecturers of
the PPA.
At the meeting,
Colonel, Hero of People's Armed Forces Phung Van Khau shared with the PPA’s
officers and lecturer about his life as well as his career, especially his
memories in the battles in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, which helps the PPA’s
officers and lecturers to understand more about but the heroic years of the
generations of the Dien Bien Phu soldiers.
Colonel, Hero of
People's Armed Forces Phung Van Khau was born in Cao Bang, joined in the
revolution since the age of 17 years old and fought at the Artillery regiment.
In the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Colonel Phung
Van Khau and his comrades were assigned to destroy 4 enemy’s blockhouses to
assist the land-armed forces to attack at the E1 hill. In this combat, his
comrades were sacrificed in turn, only left alone Colonel Phung Van Khau alive.
With so much resentment and hatred as well as determination to avenge for his
comrades, Colonel Phung Van Khau destroyed 5 cannon, 6 heavy machine-gun , 4
canon and 1 ammunition depot by himself. The glorious achievement of Colonel
Phung Van Khau had contributed greatly to Dien Bien Phu Victory in particular
and in the resistance war against the French colonialists in general.

It is believed in
war or in peacetime, being in any positions, Colonel Phung Van Khau has always
been the Hero, a good example for people to follow. Colonel Phung Van Khau had
5 times to meet President Ho Chi Minh and 2 times awarded the Feat Order for
his important contribution to the historical Victory of Dien Bien Phu 60 years ago.

The talk between
the Colonel, Hero of People's Armed Forces Phung Van Khau with the PPA’s
officers and lecturers was taken place in meaningful and emotional atmosphere, which
contribute to educating politic, ideology and awareness for the PPA’s officers
and lectures on the patriotic
traditions, promoting the spirit of unity, dynamism and creativity in learning and
working, as well as expressing the deep gratitude for the generations of Dien
Bien Phu soldiers who had bravely sacrificed themselves for the Cause of national
liberation.
