Lieutenant General, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Yem, President of the PPA spoke at the Talk

Accordingly, Buddhism was introduced into our country very soon from the Indian merchant fleet but not from China. Luy Lau – headquarters of Giao Chi district (now in Bac Ninh province) soon became the important Center of Buddhism of the country. Then Buddhism in our country developed strongly and impacted profoundly on the economy, politic, culture and society under the Dynasties of Dinh, Prior Le, Ly, Tran, Later Le and Nguyen. In addition, the teachings of Buddhism such as Dependent Origination (worldview), Five Aggregates (outlook on life), Four Noble Truths (path to the cessation of suffering) and ethics (charity, alms, causal reincarnation), etc. also mentioned at the talk by Venerable Thich Chon Thien.

Venerable Dr. Thich Chon Thien talked about Buddhism

with officials, lecturers and students of the PPA

In the history of defending the country, the reigns of Ly and Tran were often regarded as the most glorious dynasties. During these reigns, the famous Zen masters with their pure ethereal wisdom played the role of Royal Teachers and actively contributed in the construction and development of the country such as Zen master Van Hanh, Hue Sinh, Vien Chieu, Man Giac, Chan Khong, Giac Hoang, Khong Lo, etc. The Zen masters entered into life and directly helped the king to make plans, draft documents, write the royal decrees, receive the diplomatic delegations and even discuss on the military. Today, the existing cultural heritages as Kien Quoc pagoda, Kien So pagoda, etc. demonstrates that from the early country, by the wisdom of Zen masters, Buddhism has contributed positively to the development of the country, contributed to building the friendly and honest nation.

The Venerable stressed that during the 2,000-year history of accompanying the nation, the mission of Buddhist in Vietnam are to save from misfortune and aid the nation in danger as the teachings of the Buddha.
