On
August 2nd, 2016, the PPA was held the closing ceremony of training course on
enhancing knowledge and communication skills on wildlife protection and handed
over Detection of Environmental Crime Training (DETECT) training manual.
Attending
the ceremony was Mrs. Tehri Majanen, Head of Environment Section, United States
Agency for International Development (USAID); Mr. Sulma Warne, Deputy Director
of Freeland Organization; Colonel, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Minh Chat, Vice
President of the PPA; Representatives of functional units of the PPA;
Co-ordinators of Freeland and more than 500 students of the PPA.

In
the training course, more than 1000 students at the PPA were equipped basic
knowledge about endangered wildlife protection laws, the provisions and
sanctions for violations; effective communication skills on wildlife protection
as well as the use of WildScan - a free application on the mobile phone to
identify the species, it is an achievement of Asia's Regional Response to
Endangered Species Trafficking (ARREST).

At
the ceremony, Mr. Sulma Warne, Deputy Director of Freeland Organisation hightly
appreciated the efforts of Vietamese Government and the PPA in fighting
against the trafficking of wild animals: “Being a main training institution for
law enforcement force, the PPA plays an important role in fighting against the
trafficking of wild animals. The aim of ARREST’s activities is to consolidate
the role of Academy; this document is one of the most important results of this
period…”

Mrs.
Tehri Majanen, Head of Environment Section, USAID shared: “Unless we cooperate
to be a joint community, trafficking of wild animals will be a global threats
leading to the decline of species, ecosystem, health and security. This
document helps the Vietnamese law enforcement force fight against the
trafficking of wild animals. We need make more efforts to stop this illegal
trafficking”.
Also,
at the closing ceremony, Representatives of Freeland Organisation handed over
the DETECT training manual for the PPA. This Vietnamese document is based on
environmental crime detection references and adjusted according to the
Vietnamese reality. The Freeland compiled this Vietnamese document in the
framework of ARREST, sponsored by USAID.

Speaking
at the ceremony, Colonel, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Minh Chat, Vice President of the
PPA expressed thanks to the Freeland organization and USAID. He hoped that
there would have more and more actions to protect wildlife and students at the
PPA would use knowledge in this training course to complete their mission in
protecting wildlife, ecosystem.
