With the consent of the MPS, on
March 23rd, 2016, the Research Center for Criminology and Crime Investigation -
the PPA in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) held the
training course on "Skills to collect, manage and analyze information on
wildlife crime" for officers and soldiers in charge of anti-environmental
related crime of the Police Department of Anti-Environmental Related Crime and the
Public Security Department of Hanoi City.
Before the increasing situation of the
kind of crime relating to illegal wildlife trade, the Government of Vietnam has
drastically directed the Ministries, Branches and Localities to strengthen the
preventing, combating and detecting and handling strictly those activities relating
to illegal wildlife trade, violations of the provisions of the laws of Vietnam
and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna
and Flora.
In the process of combating this
type of crime, the authorities found that the collection, management and
analysis of information on crime relating to illegal wildlife trade plays as
one of the prerequisite role. Therefore, skills of collection of reliable
information as well as management and analysis of useful information for the crime
prevention are essential to enhance for the law enforcement force.
With the above-mentioned reasons, the
training course was organized with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness in fighting
against the environmental related crime in general, the type of crime relating
to illegal wildlife trade in particular, additionally, strengthening capacity, knowledge
and skills to collect, manage and analyze information on crimes relating to illegal
wildlife trade for the law enforcement officers in this field.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel, Assoc.Prof.Dr.
Nguyen Minh Duc, Deputy Director of Institute of Police Science - PPA
appreciated the cooperation program with the Wildlife Conservation Society. He
believed that the training course would be a good opportunity for the police
forces to improve the skills and experiences in investigation of environmental
related crimes, especially crimes relating to illegal wildlife trade. He also required
the trainees should enhance the spirit of learning and and accumulating
knowledge and experiences from the experts to serve the protection of the
environment in general and wildlife in particular in Vietnam.
