PPA President visits and works with Institute of Criminal Justice Studies - University of Portsmouth in UK
Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Yem, President of the PPA presented the memorial gift for Director of the Institute for Criminal Justice Studies of the University of Portsmouth

Currently the Institute is training for more than 2,000 students of criminology and criminal justice, about 500 Masters and 200 PhD. Among them, some of the police officers of Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam has been studying and researching at the Institute currently.

 

On the occasion of visiting to the Institute,  professor Steve Savage presented Mr. Nguyen Xuan Yem, President of the PPA his monograph book ““Police Reform”, which has recently been published in 2013. Also, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Yem discussed with the leaders of the Institute about the possibility of cooperation and the both sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on this occasion.

 

Since in 2012,  the PPA, one of 12 academies and universities in the nationwide, has been funded and assigned for training PhD degree under the Government’s project 911 on training PhD for lecturers of universities, research institutes and some key branches. Therefore, the PPA will report to the leader  of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education and Training for selecting  some post-graduated students who have been trained under the project 911 of the Government at the PPA to practice and participate in training course in the period of one month at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies of the University of Portsmouth.

The studying program included four groups of knowledge: knowledge of police work, criminology and criminal justice in 5 days; knowledge of learning skills at post-graduate degree in 5 days, knowledge of researching methodology at PhD in 5 days and knowledge of designing programs on researching PhD and completing Ph.D. thesis in 5 days.

Under the memorandum of understanding between the both sides, the training course will be conducted from March, 2014 under the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education and Training Vietnam.

 

This is a new step in developing relationship on international cooperation, which is contributing to improving the quality of education in general and quality of training PhD degree of the PPA in particular.
